This is fabulous! Moving and inspiring. I joined Mastodon in November 2022 after Musk bought Twitter. I had been on Twitter for 10 years, had curated lists and followed thousands of people. And I had over 1000 followers of my own. I've been scrambling to try to hold on to what I loved about it. But I feel it slipping away. Meanwhile I've been slowly building something different on Mastodon. I feel the promise. But I'm still mourning. Your post gives me hope, and a bigger context. Thank you!
Great piece and beautiful illustration. I appreciate the glimpse into the Fediverse and the "why" behind it.
Love what you said about the internet being worth fighting for. I completely agree. The web may change, but the communities we want to belong to will continue to find ways to survive and thrive.
I love this as usual, Mariya. I should be working, so I'll come back and read this thoroughly. And I agree with you, it's okay for businesses to die. I don't think it was healthy for Amazon, Google and Facebook to get as big and powerful as they did.
